It's December 1st. Thanksgiving has come and gone, and the holiday season is officially in full swing. For many of us, that means it's the perfect opportunity to whip up or attend parties that offer your favorite holiday treats. The only problem is that for many of us, our favorite winter or holiday goodies are the type guaranteed to make your waistline expand.
Health magazine created a list of 36 holiday foods you should avoid this holiday season. If the list makes you despair, take this into consideration: each item on the list has a modified recipe with less calories and fat so that you can enjoy the taste of your favorite dishes without feeling guilty later. It's all about recreating the memory of what those foods mean without using the butter, cream, sugar, and other ingredients that tend to up the calorie load. One example we liked is the classic favorite green bean casserole with fried onions. Did you know one full dish has almost 800 calories? For green beans! The article offers a zesty broccoli recipe to try instead, or you could make fresh green beans with almonds and craisins for a twist on the traditional method.
If you try one of the modified recipes out, let us know in the comments! Check out the article here. Food number one might surprise you: cheese straws.
